For the last 2 months I’ve been languishing with a self-diagnosed case of Pertussis. My whole family has. From a bicycle racing standpoint, I couldn’t have picked a better time to get this prolonged illness.
One of the advantages of Pertussis is that you feel 100% normal between coughing sessions. Couple that fact with a self-imposed quarantine and you have someone who went bonkers developing websites. I’ve put together 4 awesome websites that you need to see: CyclingAnalysis.com, SpokeCycling.com, PEvideo.org, and PerformanceVid.com. These are still under development because I’ve got a few more things I need to change, but I’m otherwise ready to roll them out.
And another advantage of Pertussis: you can still ride. That is, if you don’t mind some temporarily ride-stopping coughing fits, constant spitting of flem, and breathing through the airway the size of a drinking straw. Other than that, your legs and lungs feel great. You just don’t dare try to test yourself or you might end up fetal in the ditch. Unfortunately, I haven’t been taking advantage of this advantage. My riding has been largely non-existent. There is really no time to ride when you’re engrossed in websites, coughing your guts out, and watching multi-week sporting dramas. Consequently, I missed out on my summer plans to mountain bike and explore.
Pertussis also gave me a chance to do summer projects. I built a tree house for my boy and did quite a few other projects I had been putting off during the race season. Next time you want to get a lot of stuff done, you might want to contract Pertussis. And don’t let the docs diagnose you with virus-not-pertussis-even-though-you-have-the-exact-symptoms-as-pertussis-and-we-haven’t-bothered-investigating-if-it-is-pertussis. What you want, is Pertussis.
So hopefully now we’re getting over this just in time to come back into the public. For me, I’m anticipating some fall riding and I’ve got a couple other websites I’m planning to do, assuming I’m not too well to be distracted from this.

Brian,
What is the possibilities of the Lagrande Ride website having a forum section? When the website was first created and with the other lagrande forums it was very enjoyable. There were numerous posts from various people. The Lagrande Ride website is very well put together and I enjoy reading it, however, I dont find it to be very interactive. A forum section would open it up to more people sharing more information about cycling within our community. Just a thought.

It would be fairly easy for me to put up a forum, but I don’t see any demand for it. I originally had a forum on the site a couple years ago, but it was a ghost town so I took it away. There were a few good comments on the forum, but absolutely no discussions were taking place. So, eventually people quit posting anything. Apparently, the cycling crowd around here are passive voyers of the internet, because I know lots of people are visiting my sites. I’ve even tried yelling at people a couple months ago to get some interaction but nothing really happened. So, LaGrandeRide.com’s audience has spoken. . .and their silence has deafeningly told me they don’t need a forum. That said, we do have a forum in our Google groups. It is a private forum, but anyone can join it and see the discussions. There, you will find. . .well. . .no discussions. But, you will get a few announcements every once in a while from me or someone named Corrie that spells their name differently on every email.

BS- I 2ND STANTON’S THOUGHT. NOW THAT YOU HAVE SPARKED PEOPLES INTEREST IN YOUR WEBSIGHT A FORUM MIGHT WORK. I FIND IT CONFUSING TO REMEMBER THE GOOGLE GROUP NAME AND HOW TO GET TO IT ON THE NET. I THINK OF OREGON TRAIL RACING AND END UP ON THAT WEBSITE WHICH ISEN’T PART OF THE GOOGLE GROUP. LAGRANDERIDE.COM IS AN EASY SITE TO ACCESS AND WORK WITH,SO NOW THAT YOU HAVE TIME, WITH YOUR PERTUSSIS AND ALL, MAYBE YOU COULD GIVE IT SOME THOUGHT. I FIND XTERRA’S DISCUSSION FORUM INTERESTING, AND MTBR.COM HAS A GREAT FORUM AS WELL.

It is flattering that you’re calling me what my close friends call me. With them, I’m quick to point out that only 1 of my 4 degrees is a BS. Maybe they call me that for some other reason. BUT WHY THE YELLING?
